A WORD ABOUT SUN CITY
Sun City, Huntley opened in the spring of 1998 and was completed in early 2013. With approximately 2,000 acres, 5500 homes and a projected population of 9,000 people, this active senior adult community is the largest of its kind in Illinois. The subdivision is located in both McHenry and Kane Counties in northern Illinois and is approximately 45 miles northwest of downtown Chicago and 30 miles from O'Hare International Airport. All of the community is located within the city limits of Huntley. The community is zoned an active adult community, which means at least one person per household must be 55 years or older. Guests under the age of 19 are welcome to visit, but some restrictions apply to their length of stay.
Some of the amenities included in living in Sun City Huntley are The Prairie Lodge, a 94,000 square foot recreation building featuring an indoor and outdoor pool, an indoor walking track, sauna/whirlpool, locker room facilities, a fitness and aerobics center, a variety of hobby and art rooms, a computer lab, sewing room, library, a golf pro shop, and Jameson's Restaurant; The Tall Oaks Tennis Club featuring six lighted regulation courts and one stadium court; Eakin Field that plays host to a variety of outdoor activities, including horseshoe courts, a softball field and a sand volleyball court; Millgrove Woodshop, a 4,800 square foot carpentry shop and home of the Eakin Creek Railroad Club; and acres of open space such as Wildflower Lake and Whisper Creek Golf Club where residents of Sun City receive preferential rates and tee times.
Sun City Huntley is governed by a community association board, with board members, an association staff, and contact people. With over a hundred charter/non-charter clubs, committees, and organizations, there is always something to do within the community and as such, the community is geared to the active "over 55" age group. Fitness and wellness are an integral part of living beyond the initial age of retirement and with the Wellness Center, an indoor lap pool, an indoor track, a fitness room and aerobics and dance classes, being healthy and enjoying the lifestyle of Sun City is an important and integral part of choosing to live in the community.
